Jennie

Can we claim her?

Stretch-satin. Diamonté. Jewel colours. Cleavage. Mahogany. These are the trademarks of the Irish ‘fashion’ contingent at awards, screenings, launches and galas. The people gracing Life magazine and VIP, the omnipresent brigade of social glitterati in the Irish media. I’m not suggesting for a moment that they represent Irish fashion, but they clog up the publicity arteries and promote their brash, ‘look at me now’ costumes at every possible moment. Like a forceful gale of fresh air, Roisin Murphy stands out as muse, musician and mentor. You love it or hate it, but her style bounds forward into unchartered territories. For some it is contrived, and rumours about her aggressive stalking of the paparazzi at fashion shows, reinforces this. But for others, like me, she is ceaselessly inventive and imaginative and we should exploit our connections as much as we can. What do you think?
