DFF Launch: Swoon

Tim Ryan

When your budget only stretches to the high street, sometimes you can be conned into believing fashion begins and ends on the high street. It’s only when confronted by a show like the one held in the Powerscourt for the launch of the Dublin Festival of Fashion last night, that the true potential of fashion is really highlighted.

Everything was from inside the Powersourt Centre including the Loft Market, Bow, Covet, the Design Centre and French Connection.

Sinead Doyle

Bow provided a lot of vintage pieces including a deep mustard portfolio bag and black chiffon gloves (chiffon gloves – who’d a thought?), as well as great Momuse cuffs and Tim Ryan knitwear pieces.  I also witnessed the sexiest piece of clothing I have EVER seen – a peach jumpsuit from Matt Doody with a deep V at the front and a draped V at the back. Doody just opened his shop in the Powerscourt that day and he provided an arsenal of truly dramatic collars and bibs for the show – definitely one to watch. There was some great knitwear from Arran Murphy and Lisa Shagwi from the Loft market and Sinead Doyle had the fiercest pair of high-waisted trousers I have seen to date. And the dress I shall be wearing to my wedding/ the Oscars/ accept my Nobel Peace prize is a white feathered dress from Eilis Boyle which nearly had me fainting like a hysterical Victorian.

Covet provided some Christian Lacroix, Miu Miu and Bottega Veneta and there was a gorgeous nude/ peach pleated dress from Stella McCartney.

All in all, WWIWT was overawed; at  both the vision of the Irish designers and the imaginative scope of stylist Aisling Farinella who put the show together.
