Taking it to new lengths

There is a new wave of skirts taking the high street by storm… The new skirt is all about longer lengths, from fuller 50’s inspired mid calf skirts to my favourite, tighter tube style high waisted mid length styles and off course the maxi skirt. Sure, there is nothing like popping on a micro mini and banging on a masssssssive pair of heels for a night on a town with the girls, but for this Autumn Winter to stay on trend, you ought to think about adding a few inches to that skirt! There is this notion that to be sexy we need to show as much leg as possible, yeh sure it will increase the oooogling factor but for a more chic look (and still sexy) check this out…

The new length skirt was all over the catwalks for this season, from Prada and Vuitton to Marc Jacobs and Marni and as always there are some crackers on the highstreet… I picked yum grey high waisted tube version in creased stretched cotton in River Island, who have a fantastic selection.

This style is great worn with loose fitting blouse style tops, preferably sheer – killing two key trends in one look..  bang on a waist cinching belt and your good to go. Feel free to big up the shoulders with exaggerated shoulder tops with this style too, it can help balance out the hips! Still sexy as hell, hugging your curves but while covering up your legs. The 50’s inspired a-line version ala Prada and Louis Vuitton is also gonna be massive this season, cynical as we may be now, I bet my Christmas we’ll all be taken by the look.

This vintage inspired look is super sophisticated and is all about highlighting tiny waists and getting those bosoms on show… What’s great about the longer length skirt and particularly the 50’s style version, is we can dare to bare more on top, with corset inspired tops, which would have been a major faux pax with a mini!!!! Legs OR boobs ladies… never both!!

I’ve spotted some divinie 50’s inspired ones in Topshop , Oasis and on ASOS…Or for the bargain hunters, check out some vintage stores to get the look.

The maxi skirt is the perfect transition to Autumn, if you’re still mourning the loss of not being able to wear your maxi’s any more – a super chic, casual look, great with flats or army style boots and loose fitting cardi, throw on your aviator jacket and your soooooo on trend!
