Thank God for the Go-To dress

isabelle marant... that's how ya do it

Ah yes it’s that most loved / hated time of year… Where girls try to outdo each other, where the scent of biscuity fake tan lingers, when you try and drink all you can so your boss has to pony up, when the office nice guy gets mashed and starts feeling you up, when you wish you left three hours before you did, where some married person in sales gets off with someone in marketing and you’re not supposed to have noticed… that’s right. It’s the CHRISTMAS PARTY!

What’s funny about the Christmas party is you kinda look forward to it, then dread it, then buy a dress you love and start looking forward to it again. I don’t know a huge amount of people in my work place because I’m not working there for very long. So I don’t feel massively comfortable with the idea of the whole xmas party thing from the start. That makes me feel super pressurised to go out and by some fabulous robe that forces people to remember me for all the right reasons. Here’s what I had in mind:

Karen Millen flapper dress with a twist

Topshop maxi (no legs on show, how novel!)

Another Karen Millen

Karen again, deffo too much leg on show, pretend I'm a Jagger

ASOS soft but vampy

Well it aint happening. To start with funds are pretty stretched. Secondly, I’ve been running around like a blue arsed fly and have been too tired to go shopping. Thirdly, I’ve had ambitions of buying something that’s not from the high street (less risk you’ll end up wearing the same dress as someone else.)

But the biggest issue has to be the footwear! How the hell do you dress to suit this weather?

So all things considered, I’m gonna wear a dress I bought last year. My go-to dress. My best “I’m not trying” garment. My in-your-face-i’m-not-buying-a-new-dress dress. My bu-lack darling, dress. Incidentally, it’s still my can’t-believe-i-got-this-on-sale-BEFORE-Christmas dress.

Oh my beautiful bargain Christopher Kane for Topshop dress, how many ways do I love thee..?

Fail-safe! I love you Christopher Kane!
