Fashion Challenges

Funny Fashion

Went to see David O’Doherty last night. For those unaware, O’Doherty is the Irish comedian who enjoys a good Yamaha and likes to communicate via the medium of song. Anecdotes were shared, laughs were had and money was well spent. But what of the Fashion? O’Doherty was wearing a cape*. Obviously aware that the cape is a must-have for A/W 2010, O’Doherty brandished his with gusto. He accessorised with a plaid shirt; some might say passé, but in fact, O’Doherty was channelling the glam cowboy look that’s set to be big for S/S 2011. This look requires check and sequins, which he had in abundance on his cape. To finish, he had what looked like a snazzy pair of Levi twists. His hair was also nicely coiffed to give it that body and bounce necessary for the stage. Animal fashion has been a consistent trend in the noughties (owl pendants, dove necklaces, horse t-shirts, leopard print everything…endless permutations) and O’Doherty nicely referenced that with his homage to badgers, sharks and pandas.

*Unfortunately no pictures of cape. You gotta pay to see it.

It is refreshing to see a comedian so aware of the importance of sartorial elegance. Tommy Tiernan looks like a pikey, Dylan Moran looks like he rose out of a 4 day bender at The End of The World, Neil Delamere looks like he just walked off the set of Pure Mule (perhaps?) and Karl Spain: words fail.
Keep up the good work DOD.
