Aussie Fashion

So I think I want a fur gilet….

So I picked up a pair of light brown suede, high-waisted shorts at the weekend and a coral, loose-fitting, ruffle blouse… To add, I’m just about coming to terms with shopping in Sydney and dealing with the loss of my ‘go to’ stores of TopShop, River Island, Awear, Urban Outfiters, New Look and of course Penneys! But I’m getting there… my TopShop et al equivalents over here (so far) are Sportsgirl (random choice of name but actually quite cool), Bardot, Pink Zebra, Dotti and Forever New…. I also stumbled upon a delicious Reiss-esque store called Oxford… Which I shall def be frequenting more! (I picked up a salmon pink coloured silk tulip dress in the sales there- yum!) Oh and the good news Zara opened here today!! Whoop!

Anyway, off point, I’ll update more when I get more used to shopping over here….So, back to the shorts, I tried on this yummy looking, mink coloured, faux fur gilet… It was divine… or at least I thought it was… Seeing as I’ve just landed here and am badly missing some gal pal shopping compadres, I asked my boy to check it out. To say he look puzzled would be a major understatement… His words were ‘well I just don’t get it’…. What’s there to get I asked?! Starting to get slightly peeved at his inability to appreciate this loveliness I was dawning! Apparently, his ‘issue’ with the gilet, is that it has no sleeves… or something! He just basically thinks they are random, with no purpose, and from his face I could tell he basically thought I looked damn right stuuuuupid!!

So I didn’t buy it, as I couldn’t deal with the ‘jees WTF are you wearing’ eyes! But it’s been 4 days and I’m still thinking about it… Here’s why… I have a beige maxi skirt which I just happen to think would look damn right cool with a gilet and my gold gladiators; I wanna wear it with the new suede shorts; I think it would be a funky contrast with some of my more pretty girly dresses, lash on some gold accessories and hey presto plus I think it would be smokin’ with skinny jeans and booties as we approach Winter here in Sydney and frankly, I just like it. I like the idea of something bulky over something tight fitting… I think it gives a great silhouette. And I like the contrast of wearing fur in a casual manner compared to the more traditional glamorous fur look… My problem is they can look too bulky, spesh the cheaper versions and I’m afraid of looking like semi-overweight bear/ Yeti …. Hmmmm… what to do!

I just love how Elle Macpherson and Rachel Zoe rock theirs….I’m think a shorter version too! What do ya’ll think?!
