Now I am a big fan of The Tracksuit. Never been ashamed to admit it. I have a collection of hoodies and sweatpants that aggressively compete with my flirty little dresses and vast shoe collection for wardrobe space. For every instance recorded of me dressing up in fine gowns and layers of jewellery, I have twice as many of me wearing my Adidas 3-stripes, my Nike high tops and miscellaneous over-sized men’s hoodies. They’re just so goddamn comfortable. (Did I just utter that word? The word that gives fashionistas indigestion? Comfortable? Why yes, yes I did. Whatchoo gonna do about it?)
Well, imagine my surprise to be…well surprised…at Whitney Port’s choice of tracksuit action while out shopping in H+M. Sure she was dressed down for some shopping – it was probably last-minute, maybe she’d been on a rager the night before. However, she missed the crucial raison d’etre for donning the cotton and sweats – you scrub down to be a scrubber. The tracksuit is all about comfort and ease, lazing and chilling; sometimes cool, sometimes crusty…but never, NEVER glamourous. A glamorous tracksuit? Baffling.
Whitney can be seen here committing two absolute crimes against tracksuit fashion – accessorising with pearls (PEARLS?) and diamonte (DIAMONTE?) gladiator-style sandals. Love the top, love the pants, but pearls? She has the requisite Jacinta bun (held together with a natty orange crab clip if I’m not mistaken – kudos), but the overall look is Just Plain Wrong.
Whitney, Whitney, Whitney – I have always been your staunch supporter in the long-standing Whitney V Olivia war, but you’ve cut me right through the tracksuit heart.
I don’t think I can be friends with you anymore.
