Fashion can be a bit…obnoxious. A bit self-aggrandizing, a bit transparent, a lot superficial, very myopic and hella arrogant…the list of dubious merits is endless. And charity fashion events…well that’s a whole other level of vacuity altogether. Staid, sit-down luncheons with snippy conversation and polite one-up-manship. Charity and fashion…the definitive lady-wot-lunches affair.

And then, every so often, something with real flair, real creativity, real energy…comes along and blows all the stereotypes outta the water.

The Glam Slam is a charity event with a fashion twist. There will be a fashion show and auction with some slick designer pieces from Twenty8twelve, See by Chloe, Designers Remix, Maje and Manoush, as well as make-overs, a beauty masterclass with Liz Dwyer from Image magazine and a hair and beauty parlour (manicures, hair-styling and massage, oh my!)  AND THEN…there will be X-box and pool competitions…allegedly for the boys (equal rights and all that…it is the 90s), but riddle me this; have you ever seen a woman play pool in 6inch heels? The height aids positioning and strategy…she’ll wipe the floor, you mark my words. And to top it all off, the event is being hosted in the Sycamore Club with a host of Djs spinning ass-shaking choons late into the night.

 

 

So grab a glass of Prosecco at the door, get yourself a Mad Men makeover, bid on that beautiful white Twenty8Twelve dress, slam out a few rounds of pool or some Mario Kart and then dance around your handbag…secure in the knowledge that you’ve had a mighty fine time and all the while donating to charity. 

The event is in aid of Punho Forte Ireland, which strives to improve the health and educational needs of children in Itacaré, Brazil. ‘Punho Forte’ loosely translates as ‘Fight Back’; the charity aspires to equip young people with the skills and resources to become active members of society.
