Back in the day, I worked in Penneys for a summer. It didn’t suit me. I’d spend the day tidying the knickers table and hanging clothes in order of colour and size. Only for some bell-end to come in and mess up everything I’d spent the past hour putting in order. It gave me the rage so I stuck to waitressing! Anyway the experience has always given me an appreciation for retail workers. And there is no one I feel more sorry for than TK Maxx workers… the state of the place! It must be a nightmare to keep tidy. It’s a bit of a nightmare to shop in usually too. I’ve nabbed the odd bargain in there in my time, but generally I just can’t be doing with the crowded, jam packed and too-close-together rails.
Well someone must have been listening to me because they’ve redesigned their Stephen’s Green and Swords stores. It’s definitely more user friendly. Most of the rails are low-down so you can see across the shop. The rails aren’t overly wedged with clothes either which is a massive bug bear of mine (take note high street!).
Myself and Sarah toddled along on Saturday morning to have a look-see. I managed to find myself a new bag which I really needed. (My crappy stop-gap bag had become my permanent one) AND a current season Elie Tahari top which was heavily discounted. There was an Alexander McQueen top which I adored but it was damaged on the front, kind of like someone had left something hot on it. Even though it was only around 40 quid, I couldn’t justify it. If a top is nice enough to wear somewhere semi-fancy, it shouldn’t really look damaged should it? It’d want to be a fiver before I’d say ‘ah feck it!’
So anyway we’ll see if this new-look TK Maxx means a tidier, less chaotic shopping experience. I’ll be keeping an eye on it in the hope it does!
