After a highly anticipated summer of sun and sand and being extremely disappointed with the dull crappy mucky weather we have had (bar one day which reached 23 degrees – the press have been calling it ‘summer’?) I feel compelled to write this. For an Irish woman, a summer wardrobe is always tricky. Nice summery dress – but do I need to wear tights? Will tights look weird? Ooh pretty sandals – will they get ruined in the mud? Will my feet end up soaking wet every time I step outside? Ooh nice trilby – does this look ridiculous when it’s not even that sunny? Ah feckin’ pikeys will be schtealing it at festivals won’t they? Anyway you catch my drift. So I am pleased to announce that it is officially the end of summer. Well maybe not ‘officially’ but I have decided for myself that this is the end of my summer (I feel I may have been pretending for too long, trapped in a bubble of my own dreams – hoping that some day the sun might shine so much as to give me the slightest freckle, no such luck!) So if anyone is with me, I am off to invest in some thick black opaques, some nice studded ankle boots, scarves, cosy jumpers leggings etc etc.
What I’m most excited about now though is The Winter Jacket.
Last year, I had a selection (you’d be surprised at how many jackets you can get when you abide by the ‘quantity over quality’ rule- IMPORTANT- I do not recommend this. They have not lasted and that, ladies and gentleman, is why I am extremely excited about picking out my new winter jacket)
So what will it be? The ever-stylish camel coat – coming up front in the style stakes for its hundredth millionth consecutive year in a row.
Or a Cape? Not the most practical of all jackets – arms can get cold without a thick sleeved top on, the awkward hand spasms you get when you realise you have nowhere to put your arms besides on your hips or in the pockets (I tend to go for in the pockets as I like to remain slightly low-key but hey, whatever floats your boat), please tell me others suffer with this problem too??
The classic trench – the only jacket that can be worn with just tights and heels and leaves you looking sexy, powerful and elegant (any other jacket equals slutty, slutty, hooker-esque, slutty). A perfect ‘I am just AHmazing’ jacket.
Or any of the following- military style, the parka, the aviator (are they still in?), a fur jacket (will they ever be out?) etc etc.. Now to find the high street version of all of these (Good quality high street that is, I’m thinking more so Topshop and French Connection rather than Penneys – learn from my mistakes people…)
