Holy Moly Mother of God. Lets hope I’m not last to the table with this news – I am am so sickened I defiantly feel a rant is more than necessary – brace yourselves. Ok, so I understand that there is a huge demand for younger and younger models these days, but come on people-TEN YEARS OLD? Is that not just a tad bit too much? Just-out-of-nappys Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau is posing sexily and provocatively for the pages of French Vogue and instead of being intrigued by the high-fashion attire she sports, I feel slightly disgusted. No – utterly disturbed is more like it. And don’t get me wrong, there is nothing cuter than a child model-strutting around in tutus and tiara, smiling gap-toothed at the camera, the remnants of chocolate milk on their upper lip – that is child modelling. That should be the only type of modelling for children who have yet to hit puberty (maybe slightly more mature poses would suffice also but you catch my drift?) But slicked back hair, a tonne of makeup and a Brigitte Bardot style pout (lips slightly parted, sexy gap in the middle teeth and expertly applied lipstick) is kind of sickening. Having a ‘youthful look’ is so passe it seems; being youthful is now the only answer.
Chanel Iman gracing the cover of TeenVogue at 16 was passable, considering it is ‘Teen’ Vogue (and she was a year older than myself at the time so I was mesmerised by her beauty and fame rather than shocked at how young she was). But now little Elle Fanning (remember her? yeah neither do I) only 13 is the face of Marc Jacobs. WHAAAAAA?! Not just a face fo a new perfume but thee actual face for Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 collection.
If you were unaware of how old Thylane is in the pictures, it would be extremely difficult to figure out whether this is a child or an adult. Her waist length hair and pouting lips are strangely similar to that of someone at least twice if not three times her age. And you may think this rant is out of jealousy. That my envy of her lucious locks and piercing ‘come hither’ eyes (neither of which I have yet to master although I am a whole decade older than her) are the reasons behind what I’m writing? Or that I am lusting over the designer clothes and professional make-up she acquires when at ten? And she probably doesn’t appreciate it…
