So blingmerchants Jay-Z and Kanye West are gonna be dropping their ridonculous shapes in Dublin this summer. I won’t lie…I felt a frisson of excitement. These two major playerz have been churning out some seriously heavy tunes on their collaborative album Watch The Throne. Full of swagger, bravado and dark wit, it pleases me so. However, the music is really only a bit part in the story of Jay –Z and sidekick Kanye (or is it the other way round?). They’ve taken hip hop stylin’ to a new and wondrous place. They’ve reappropriated the traditional uniform of hip hop – excess, bling, volume – and instilled some high-end fashion sensibilities – tweed, studding, fur, tailoring…
