WTF? John Galliano Spring 2013 RTW introduces ‘The Pancake’

John Galliano and the curious case of the Pancake Hat.

The John Galliano Spring 2013 Ready to Wear collection debuted at Paris Fashion Week, and whatever the controversy about the man himself, the brand, the abilities of the new incumbent Bill Gaytten, the austerity strikes and the political instability…look at those HATS.

One collection is a weird embryonic fusion of Eliza Doolittle and Cousin It from The Addams Family. The other set appears to be a delicately balanced set of meringue layers leftover from The Great British Bake Off. Both have then been flattened in the form of a giant, oblong pancake.

Lookie, the clothes are lovely – lots of layering and minimalism and clean lines – but pancake hats? Not even at Aintree love. Maybe it’s a reference to impending Armageddon, when the Ozone layer has completely disappeared and we’ll all die of sunburn. Whatever. It’s NASTY.
